What the weekend has in store...
Come join fungi enthusiast, ecologist and arboriculturist Nathan Orr for a indepth mycology experience. Spend a weekend on the beautiful Lizard Peninsular looking at, and for, the vastly diverse fungi this rich landscape has to offer. Discuss what the critical role of fungi are in the environment, learn how to find them and to understand the process of identification. Nathan will be bringing his microscope and ID tools, helping you to prepare spore prints, microscope slides and deepening your knowledge at the finds with you.
In addition, Nathan will also be sharing tips and tricks for fungi photography. Please note, this is not a foraging weekend, this is a deep immersion in the ecology of fungi, its importance in our ecosystems as well as a great way to spend hours wandering in one of our most beautiful landscapes settings.
We will be taking a mycelium meander through stunning landscapes and ancient lands, discovering the world of fungi and the hidden but essential part they play. With ancient woodlands and untilled grasslands either at Treglossick farm or close at hand, the prognosis is good for a fine assemblage of fungi! The weekend is fully inclusive of three meals a day, stay in the 15th Century Farmhouse with all bedding and towels provided so, just bring your kit and get out there, discovering a whole new world.
Nathan is an ecologist and arboriculturist of 20 years. His interest in fungi started 8 years ago and has quickly grown into a passion. He is a volunteer Ranger with the Mendip Hills AONB, where he has led several walks and is bringing his knowledge to the peninsular to see what he can find there. He would love for you to join him on this journey! Check him on Instagram to see the fungi, slime moulds and other creatures he has found @nate_orr_what.
